The next Knives Out film appears to be a gothic tale of murder and mystery. The first teaser for Wake Up Dead Man has been released, and its dark, atmospheric setting in a church, combined with a shocking murder, gives the franchise a distinctly gothic flavor.
Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc finds himself in the middle of this moody tale, investigating the “impossible” murder of a priest (Josh Brolin). The teaser’s use of shadows, solemn music, and a sense of ancient secrets all contribute to the gothic tone, a departure from the sunnier settings of the previous films.
The cast of characters, played by actors like Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, and Mila Kunis, seem perfectly suited to a gothic drama, where everyone has a tortured past and a hidden darkness. Blanc’s new, more formal look also fits the aesthetic of a classic gothic detective.
This new gothic chapter in the Benoit Blanc saga premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will be released in select cinemas on November 26th before it begins streaming on Netflix on December 12th.
