Tesla Roadster Prototype with SpaceX Thrusters Demonstrated as Potential Flying Car

Elon Musk has revealed a prototype of the Tesla Roadster 2 equipped with rocket-thruster technology from SpaceX, showcasing a potential leap in automotive innovation. During a demonstration in Texas, the electric sports car was observed using thrusters to perform aerial maneuvers, including driving up a curved ramp and landing after a brief flight.

Musk described this version of the Roadster as a possible flying car, noting its capability to execute rolls and other complex movements through altitude controls and rear-mounted thrusters. The demonstration was conducted remotely to mitigate safety risks, with Musk acknowledging that such a vehicle may face legal challenges in various jurisdictions.

The Tesla Roadster 2 is slated for production in 2028, with an anticipated price exceeding $200,000. Tesla has outlined plans for different versions, including a performance model and a specialized variant featuring the thrust system. Additionally, a single-seat rocket version with a full flight system is proposed to be available by invitation only.

Despite the impressive demonstration, Tesla warned that the Roadster’s flying capabilities are not intended for use on public roads. The prototype’s unveiling underscores Musk’s ambition to merge electric vehicle technology with rocket propulsion, though practical applications, safety standards, and regulatory approvals remain significant hurdles.
