An unbreakable record may have been set in film marketing history: Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s trailer crossed one billion views in just four days, confirmed at 1.1 billion by WaveMetrix on Tuesday. The trailer debuted March 17 and immediately dominated viewership charts around the world. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has turned a movie trailer into the most-watched promotional video in the history of entertainment.
The first-day performance of 718.6 million was an earthquake in the world of film marketing. Prior to Brand New Day, the highest 24-hour trailer record was 365 million, held by Deadpool & Wolverine’s Super Bowl teaser. Spider-Man: No Way Home’s 355.5 million and Grand Theft Auto VI’s 475 million were also shattered. Brand New Day’s 24-hour number was nearly double any previous record.
The cumulative billion-view total is unprecedented not just in film, but across all entertainment. Gaming, streaming, and music trailers had all fallen short of this threshold. Brand New Day has drawn a line in the sand that the entertainment industry may not see crossed again for a very long time.
Opening on July 31, the film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is a sequel to No Way Home, which grossed $1.9 billion globally. The cast features Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. India will receive the film in six languages across premium formats.
The trailer revealed an emotionally battered but resilient Peter Parker navigating a world where no one remembers him. Fan reaction was immediate and intense, flooding every social media platform with tributes and alternate titles. Brand New Day is primed to be one of the defining superhero films of its generation.
